Let me tell you about my go-to bait – the Culprit RipTide Mullet. I don't think this lure has ever let me down. In fact, it's pretty much a sure thing.

I have been fortunate to fish all over North America, from bass tours to fun fishing, from Alaska to Key West. I never make a trip without making sure I have several packs of Mullets. The Mullet is such a versatile lure; it can be rigged on a normal jighead, a chatterbait, Alabama rig, on a buzzbait or spinnerbait with or without skirt, or as a swimbait with a weightless hook.

The realistic look and action of the RipTide Mullet is what attracts fish to bite. Most every fish species will eat a minnow and the Mullet is quite possibly the closest imitation to a real minnow. When I set out to catch big flathead catfish recently on an artificial lure, the Mullet is what I rigged. I threw a 4-inch Mullet on a ½- or ¾-ounce jighead in the tail waters of a dam. My best flathead weighed thirty pounds and I caught several. I have trolled the Mullet for stripers, fished it on light line for white bass and walleye, even thrown in on a Road Runner head in Alaskan rivers for big salmon that "only bite flies." I have caught my biggest Northern Pike (45 inches) on a Mullet, hooked numerous sharks, barracuda, snapper, bonefish, and tarpon on this Mullet. It doesn't matter whether you are in saltwater or freshwater, the Mullet outperforms other baits in many situations. In fact, in brackish water it may be the best option as I have caught largemouth, redfish and drum all on the same Mullet while fishing the back waters of Louisiana.

No matter what fish are being pursued, I encourage every angler to have the Culprit Mullet on hand.

@cannonoutdorz

RipTide Mullet for Stripers

The 4 inch and 5 inch RipTide Mullet for Stripers have been a very effective bait during the fall striped bass migration for several years. Use these baits on open sand beaches along the ocean fronts and while casting from rock jetties bordering inlets. The 4 inch mullet is a great bait when the stripers are keying in on small bait such as spearing and rainfish. The 5 inch mullet is an effective bait whenever the stripers are feeding on baby menhaden, mullet or sandeels.

The most effective way to fish these 4 and 5 inch baits is rigged on an open jig head with a good quality hook. For the 4 inch mullet, use a jig head ranging from ¼ oz. to ½ oz. depending on the depth of the water and the current strength. For the 5 inch mullet, use a jig head ranging from ¼ oz. – ¾ oz. depending on the depth of the water and the strength of the current.

The most important factor to keep in mind is that the bait needs to be presented at the correct speed and depth so that it looks natural to the fish. Achieving the right presentation is all about finding the right jig head weight and line size. Once you have those factors figured out, a slow steady retrieve with the current and a couple gentle lifts should be all that's needed. Give the RipTide Mullet a try — you'll be pleasantly surprised!

For generations the Culprit brand has been known for its premium quality and dynamic "fishability" when it comes to catching BIG BASS. We take great pride in making our soft-plastics here in the U.S.A., and we craft our lures with the pro in mind so ALL anglers can enjoy the best day of fishing.

Confidence with Every Cast!
